A native of San Diego, our Pastor grew up in the South Bay. He left paradise to complete his pastoral training. Graduating with a B.A. in Religious Studies from La Sierra University and a Master of Divinity from the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University. While away from San Diego, he served as a youth pastor for five years and had the opportunity to lead his first church for two years, in Oakland, CA. Pastor Ruben always felt he would return home someday and preach the gospel in his hometown. Now he’s living the dream with his wife Martha of 17 years and their two children, T.R. and Mia. Serving at La Mesa and helping to create a culture where there is room at the table for all, has been one of the most epic experiences of his life. Our pastor’s primary responsibilities include preaching, leadership development, and casting a compelling vision for our church. Some of his favorite things include going to Disneyland with his family, reading, vegan cooking, working out at the gym, and the San Diego Padres. You can catch him just about every week, preaching about his best friend Jesus, with messages that will inspire you and light a fire in your soul.
